2021 Population Health Funding

Good health is our greatest resource. The goal of this funding is to support programs that improve the health of the whole community while addressing the barriers that some populations experience to achieving their full health potential. In this way we can help create a meaningful and lasting impact on the well-being of everyone in Pictou County.
A total of $40,000 will be available for distribution. There is no maximum allowable funding request, but it is anticipated that this amount will be shared among several programs.
Eligibility: Funding is open to registered charities and other qualified donees. Full eligibility criteria is available by downloading the application form here.
Timeline: Applications for funding must be received at the Aberdeen Health Foundation office on or before

Past Population Health Funded Programs:
The YMCA of Pictou County hosted an indoor and outdoor community-based pop-up activities that promoted active living. Games, hikes, play spaces, and fitness classes for children, youth, and families were all a part of the ‘Y on the Move’ program that pop-uped in parks, public areas, beaches, community centres, and at community events around the county.
The Mental Wellness Toolkit is an initiative of the Pictou County Mental Wellness Working Group with more than 40 organizations involved. Lack of awareness of resources was identified as a key issue in our community. The project will create a toolkit to combine all local resources in one place and train frontline agency on how to recognize and respond to mental illness and learn what resources are available here so they can help their clients navigate to the resources they need.
The Durham Community Hall delivered a Community Health and Exercise project that helped rural seniors stay connected and active with low cost/no cost exercise programming and resources.
The Pictou County Trails Association offered a Field Leader Hiking Course that built capacity to provide more guided hiking experiences and introduce more people to the mental and physical health benefits of using the trail system that is available locally.
