Home 5 Ways to Give 5 Gifts of Shares

Gifts of Shares

Enjoy the tax benefits now with a gift of publicly traded shares.

Donors may transfer gifts of Publicly Traded Shares to the Aberdeen Health Foundation electronically or by mail.

Electronic transfer:

The simplest way to make gifts of Publicly Traded Shares is by way of electronic transfer. Simply complete the following form and advise your broker to initiate the transfer by wire directly to Aberdeen Health Foundation Society’s brokerage account.

The valuation of the securities for charitable donation tax purposes will be the market value of the securities at the close of the stock market on the date the shares are received into the Aberdeen Health Foundation Society account.

By mail:

Share certificates can also be re-registered in the name of Aberdeen Health Foundation Society and forwarded by registered mail.

  • If the donor’s broker holds his/her certificate, the donor must notify the broker in writing what shares are to be transferred to Aberdeen Health Foundation Society.
  • If the owner holds the certificate and wants to donate shares to the Foundation, he/she should mail an unendorsed certificate and a signed stock power form in separate envelopes, by certified mail. A bank or the donor’s broker should guarantee the signature on the stock or bond power and he/she should sign their name exactly as it appears on the security.

The valuation of the securities for charitable donation tax purposes will be the market value of the securities at the close of the stock market on the date the shares are received into the Aberdeen Health Foundation Society account.
