FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE –

Pictou County Palliative Care Society Seeks Volunteers for In-Home Visitation Program

Pictou County, NS — The Pictou County Palliative Care Society (PCPCares) is currently seeking compassionate volunteers to join its In-Home Visitation Program, a two-year pilot initiative designed to support individuals living at home with life-limiting illnesses for which no cure is available.

This program is made possible in part by PCPCares, Aberdeen Health Foundation, and Men’s Prostate Cancer Support Group of Pictou County. The program aims to offer companionship and alleviate the sense of isolation that often accompanies serious illness.  “We are ready to enter the next phase of this program by now offering this unique opportunity to anyone who may be interested in volunteering with us,” said Francesca Couture, In-Home Visitation Program Coordinator. “Only four hours per month is required.

”PCPCares has developed a hybrid training approach that combines flexibility with thorough preparation. Volunteers will complete self-paced online modules alongside mandatory in-person group sessions, all provided at no cost. A physical copy of the training materials is also available for those who prefer one.

The training curriculum covers key topics such as:

  • The Role of a Volunteer
  • Communication Skills
  • Family Dynamics
  • Emotional, Psychosocial, and Spiritual Support
  • Grief and Bereavement and additional.

“We will be inviting health and wellness professionals to guide us through various elements within the program to ensure volunteers feel ready for their role in the community,” added Couture.
