State-of-the-Art Anesthesia Upgrades for Aberdeen Hospital
New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Friday, April 26, 2024
The Aberdeen Health Foundation recently invested in new anesthesia machines for Aberdeen Hospital, as the previous machines were coming to the end of their life expectancy. The new machines offer many benefits over the decade-old technology they replaced.
“The new workstations have many advantages over the previous machines,” says Dr. Mohammad Ghafari, Anesthetist at Aberdeen Hospital. “The new technology has increased functionality and even has environmental improvements, emitting fewer greenhouse gases.”
One of the many benefits of the increased functionality is appropriate expansion of patients’ lungs without risk of injury or trauma to the lungs, which results in better patient outcomes. “When a patient comes to the hospital and there are fewer side effects from anesthesia, they can go home earlier,” explains Dr. Ghafari. “This is not only better for the patient, but also reduces the burden on the health care system.”

Having equipment of this caliber is an investment in the community in more ways than one. According to Dr. Ghafari, staying up to date on the latest improvements in technology can help attract specialists to work and practice in Pictou County.
“Upgrades like this are so important for the hospital and community to attract highly trained anesthetists to the area. It’s very impressive that we have this high-quality, world-class equipment here at Aberdeen Hospital to be able to provide our patients with state-of-the-art care, right here at home.”
The Aberdeen Health Foundation is the leading charity for enhancing health care in Pictou County. In 2023 the Foundation invested over $2 million to fund medical equipment and enhance health programs at Aberdeen Hospital and in our community.
