Making Lifesaving Equipment Available in the Community

Up to 40,000 cardiac arrests occur in Canada each year. That’s one every 12 minutes.
Without rapid and appropriate treatment, most cardiac arrests result in death. But an individual’s chance of survival can double when CPR is used in combination with an AED.
AED stands for Automated External Defibrillator. AEDs are lifesaving devices, making a huge difference in survival rates. For every minute delay in defibrillation, the survival rate of a cardiac arrest victim decreases by seven to 10 per cent.
The Aberdeen Health Foundation has provided funding for 15 AEDs to be placed in public facilities throughout the Northumberland Shore. Scroll to the end for the full list of locations.
The AEDs have been placed in partnership with the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s BrightRed Campaign and The Lifesaving Society of Nova Scotia, which provides training to staff.
