A Daughter's Love

Ellen Jardine and her mother Kay shared an exceptional mother and daughter bond. Kay grew up in St. Paul’s, Pictou County, and was a nurse in the Eye Ward at the Aberdeen Hospital until her retirement in 1983. Her mother was her world and when Kay moved into Glen Haven Manor, Ellen signed up as a volunteer so they could continue to spend as much time as possible together. When Kay passed away in 2017, Ellen was deeply saddened and wanted to do something special in her mother’s honour.
Ellen loves life and spends much of her time baking, knitting, colouring and creating YouTube videos. Nothing compares however to her passion for photography, especially taking pictures of animals including horses, pheasants and her favourite – deer. During “normal” times Ellen has kept busy taking photos for the Highland Community Residential Services (HCRS) newsletter. These days unfortunately, due to COVID-19, she isn’t able to be quite as active with her camera. During this down time, Ellen decided to create that special project she’s been thinking about to honour her mom.
Ellen has created lovely calendars showcasing her photography – with all proceeds going to the Ophthalmology Clinic at the Aberdeen Hospital. She was involved with every step of the creative process from taking and selecting the images, to designing the calendar layout. In March, after a very successful sales campaign, Ellen proudly presented the Aberdeen Health Foundation with a cheque for $1,000.
We would like to thank Ellen for this very generous donation. Her creativity, hard work, dedication, and devotion to her mother is an inspiration. Kay would be very proud.
