Home 5 News 5 Debbie's Walk Hits Fundraising Milestone for Oncology Patients

The students and teachers of Trenton Elementary hosted the 3rd Annual Debbie’s Walk recently. The event, which is held in memory of beloved educational assistant Debbie Campbell, has now raised $5,000 for the Aberdeen Health Foundation’s Oncology Client Fund.
A diagnosis of cancer affects people in many different ways. Often unexpected is the financial impact that patients face. They may experience a decrease in income because they are unable to work. This is usually coupled with added expenses related to drug costs, medical equipment, and travel if they are receiving treatment in Halifax. The Oncology Client fund is able to ease some of that burden by providing gas cards to help with travel expenses. Patient Navigator, Bonnie McCarron is touched by the continued commitment of these young students. “Debbie’s Walk is a way for Debbie’s family and friends to remember her and give back to patients in our community as a way to honour her giving spirit and sense of community. I would like to express my heartfelt thanks for their generosity in supporting this fund. I know firsthand the difference it makes.”
