Home 5 News 5 Shoppers Drug Mart Growing Women’s Health Campaign Raises Funds for Local Initiatives

Earlier this fall, the community joined together with local Shoppers Drug Mart and its store team for one of the most successful fundraising efforts to support women’s health initiatives here in New Glasgow.  Donations to the SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. 2018 Growing Women’s Health campaign support Women’s Programs at the Aberdeen Hospital.
The 17th annual campaign is national in scope, yet locally based, with patients, customers and employees donating directly to charitable organizations in their community to ensure that resources and programming are available to meet the needs of women across the country.
“We want to thank Shoppers Drug Mart for their continued support of initiatives in the Women and Children’s Unit of the Aberdeen Hospital. This year their donation will support breastfeeding education and awareness, including the purchase of a breast pump and best practice information toolkits,” says Aberdeen Health Foundation’s Executive Director, Michelle Ferris.
The benefits of breastfeeding are many but it can be hard work, so these items will provide invaluable support to mothers. The breast pump will be used in the unit to help moms get started breast feeding, storing milk, and helping those who may be experiencing challenges to continue to breastfeed. The toolkits will be provided to each family physician and nurse practitioner in the community to help these professionals provide improved breastfeeding support to moms.
“We’re thrilled with the success of the 2018 Growing Women’s Health campaign. Each year, our customers and staff demonstrate their generosity and their commitment to supporting women in our community, and we couldn’t be more proud of everyone’s contribution,” said Ron Matlock “The Aberdeen Health Foundation plays an important role in our community and the proceeds from this year’s campaign will go a long way to helping them further that work.”
The SHOPPERS LOVE. YOU. Growing Women’s Health campaign is a four-week program held across Canada each Fall. In support of leading women’s health organizations, customers, staff and Associate-Owners at over 1,360 Shoppers Drug Mart/Phamaprix/Home Health Care locations raise funds through the purchase of the Growing Women’s Health paper icons. Since 2002, the Growing Women’s Health campaign has raised more than $35 million for Canadian health charities. In 2018, over 500 Women’s Health charities across Canada will benefit from the campaign’s proceeds with 100 per cent of funds staying in the community where they are raised.
