New Digital X-Ray Room Opens at the Hospital

Aberdeen Hospital staff celebrated the official opening of an enlarged room to house new digital X-ray equipment for its Diagnostic Imaging department.
The Aberdeen Health Foundation provided $540,000 to fund the work.
“The new digital X-ray equipment will be a significant addition to our department,” said David Quann, diagnostic imaging for the Nova Scotia Health Authority’s northern region.
“The room renovation included the addition of five feet of floor space and this additional space allows adequate room for the technologists to perform their work, the accessory equipment purchased with the unit will improve the safety of our patients during their exams and the unit itself, with its digital technology, allows for improved image quality, ease of image acquisition and transfer and, at the same time, reducing the radiation dose to our patients.”
Quann recognized the contributions by Siemens Healthcare, Weldon Construction, Jane Delaney of the hospital’s environmental services team and Edwin Buttle and the Aberdeen maintenance team.
He especially thanked the foundation’s donation.
“This is another example of the foundation’s commitment to improving healthcare in our community,” he said.
Quann also took time to honour Jennifer Springer, who came to work at the hospital in September 2016 but passed away earlier this year after a short battle with cancer.
He presented Jennifer’s mother Betty Springer with a picture that will hang in the new X-ray room.
